Incredible!!! This is one of the best experiences I’ve done in the world - and I don’t say that lightly. Get on this before you can’t book on!! Ollie (our guide) and his family have set this up beautifully - from arrival at their really cool hub to the beautifully scenic hot tubs at the end, I loved every moment. Underground, the tour is magical. It’s not just a start and end experience. They’ve really thought about the activities and flow of the whole experience. And the glow worms - WOW!! I could have stayed in the dark for hours. Ollie was super knowledgeable and talked us through the geology of the caves and the glowworms themselves (& answered all my questions so well!). Even better - they limit the group size to 6 people (I was super lucky that there was only me and another couple on my tour), but there’s no bumping into other people…you have the cave to yourself. If you’re not sure - do it!! You won’t be disappointed. I really hope I get to go back again! Thank you guys!! Z
An absolute highlight of our vacation! Our tour with "The Waitomo Experience" was absolutely incredible. We were guided by Vaughan, who was not only extremely friendly and helpful, but also super cool to hang out with and full of fascinating knowledge about the glowworms, the cave and its history. The entire adventure was amazing from start to finish. We climbed, swam, floated and squeezed our way through the cave, surrounded by countless glowworms, that created the most magical atmosphere. What I loved most, unlike the big commercial tours where you get rushed through with huge groups, this was super small, personal and unhurried. We had enough time to take everything in and enjoy the adventure at our own pace and also prepare comfortably before entering the cave. To top it all off, we ended the experience relaxing in the hot tub overlooking the beautiful farm landscape. It was the perfect way to finish an unforgettable tour. I can't recommend "The Waitomo Experience" enough. If you're looking for a unique, exciting, and truly memorable adventure in New Zealand, this is the place to go!
This is the tour you need to choose if you’re looking to experience the Waitomo caves! The Waitomo Experience runs smaller group tours where you get to go to the extreme - climbing, tubing, swimming and exploring the caves. Ollie, our guide, was spectacular - teaching us about the caves, glow worms and making sure we were having a thrilling time throughout, while also ensuring our safety. This isn’t one of those boring tours where you walk along a guided path; you even get to go full dark at times to witness the glow worms at true brightness! Such an amazing experience!! Olly was our tour guide, who is also the owner of the company. His family owns the farm where the caves are located, which just adds such a nice personal touch to how connected/proud/enthusiastic he is about the caves and the stories around them. The whole tour was filled with so many cool experiences, and since they keep the group sizes small, you really get to do so much - like swimming in the caves, seeing so many glowworms and having a warm beverage and chocolate in the dark. All tied together with a hot tub session at the end. Big thank you!
What an Amazing trip! The guides Vaughan and Ollie were excellent, very comforting and funny! As a caver it was cool to head into a cave and see some things Ive never seen before; weird glowworm interactions and interesting formations! The cave itself was really fun to explore with some floats down rapids and some fun sporty climbs above the water. The glowworm display was magical with a huge density of glowworms right above your head! Best part of the trip was slipping out of your wetsuit and warming up in the complimentary spa at the end, with a gorgeous backdrop of the waitomo country side! What an amazing idea! All the equipment was in really good condition, nothing better than slipping into a nice dry wet suit to start your tour!
